Application Process
Applicants must first secure agreement on their research project with a host in Germany who will supervise their work independently. The full application package must be submitted online via the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s official website.
The required application materials include:
- A completed application form providing personal details, a letter of motivation, a detailed research project description, and a communication strategy;
- Two letters of recommendation, each no older than twelve months, from referees who can comment on the applicant’s professional, academic, or personal background. The application system will generate links for referees to upload their letters directly, which must be forwarded to the chosen recommenders immediately. Submission of the application is only possible once both letters are uploaded;
- An extensive statement from the host institution in Germany, including a mentoring agreement.
Once the application is submitted, the designated host will receive an email containing a link to review the application documents and provide the necessary host statement and mentoring agreement. The Humboldt Foundation will only process applications after the host’s statement and mentoring agreement have been received.
