Applications are now open for the Scholarships Learn Africa 2026/27 Programme for African women

Introduction

In a convulsive and ever-changing global context, it has become more pressing than ever to boost African women’s access to quality higher education, recognizing their role as a driver of change and development on the continent. To this end, the Women for Africa Foundation launches a new call for the Learn Africa programme, an initiative that, over the years, has opened up real training, research and leadership opportunities for 462 African women, helping to strengthen their role in their countries’ development processes.

The 2026 Learn Africa programme edition marks a step forward in the evolution of the program, with the award of more than 100 scholarships, including 28 of continuity, which will allow to follow up on academic trajectories already initiated, while incorporating new scholarships in a growing number of disciplines.

One of the most important features of this call is the expansion of collaboration with leading academic institutions, which reinforce their commitment to the program and significantly expand the training offer. In this sense, the EADA business school adds the Larsson-Torras scholarship to its usual participation and, especially relevantly, the Planeta Formación y Universities group doubles its contribution, going from 10 to 20 scholarships, and incorporating for the first time programs in the field of paramedical health through the Moroccan educational institution EDUMED.

The program also continues to grow with the incorporation of new institutions, such as the FUNIBER group, which offers a master’s degree scholarship in Portuguese or French at the European University of the Atlantic, thus expanding the possibilities of access to training in different socio-linguistic contexts of Africa, and the Institute of Natural Resources and Agrobiology of Seville (IRNAS), which begins its journey in the program with an interesting face-to-face research grant.

In terms of the areas of study, Learn Africa programme 2026 reinforces its commitment to strategic disciplines such as health and new technologies, without losing sight of the boost to doctoral and master’s studies linked to Hispanicism, which continue to consolidate within the program. In this line, the increasing number of doctoral scholarships responds to a sustained commitment to research and advanced training as key tools for development.

Beyond the figures, Learn Africa represents a network in expansion of talent, opportunities, knowledge and collaboration between Africa and Spain. Each new edition not only expands access to higher education, but also contributes to the training of women prepared to lead, innovate and generate impact in their communities. The 2026 call once again places this commitment at the center, betting on a transformative education as a basis for a more equitable and sustainable future.
