Details of the Job Assignment

The University of Gothenburg invites applications for up to six fully funded PhD positions in Economics, with studies beginning on September 1, 2026. This full-time doctoral programme spans five years and culminates in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Economics (doktorsexamen) expected by August 2031.

During the initial two years, candidates will undertake a rigorous sequence of core and specialized field courses designed to build a strong foundation in economic theory and empirical research methods. The subsequent years focus predominantly on conducting independent research, composing the doctoral thesis, and engaging in academic duties such as teaching and participating in seminars.

All PhD students benefit from comprehensive funding, including salary and social security provisions consistent with employment in Sweden’s public sector, ensuring financial stability throughout the programme.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must satisfy both basic and special eligibility criteria as outlined below:

  • Basic Eligibility: Candidates should have completed an advanced-level degree, or have accumulated at least 240 higher education credits, with a minimum of 60 credits at the advanced level, or possess equivalent qualifications.
  • Special Eligibility: Applicants must hold at least 90 higher education credits in economics, including at least 30 credits at the advanced level, or have equivalent credentials.

These eligibility criteria must be met by the time of admission. Applicants anticipating fulfillment of these requirements by the start of September 2026 are encouraged to apply.
