The Young Health Programme (YHP) scholarships by AstraZeneca seek to support young changemakers globally who are engaged in advancing critical fields such as Health Equity, Health Systems Resilience, and Climate and Nature Action. These scholarships provide an invaluable platform for youth leaders who are either actively involved in these areas, studying, or conducting research, to connect and contribute at the 2026 AFS Youth Assembly.
AstraZeneca is particularly interested in applicants who are passionate about driving change in one or more of the following domains:
- Promoting health equity: Focusing on early intervention strategies to prevent non-communicable diseases such as lung disease, cardiovascular conditions, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and chronic kidney disease, especially among youth, or aiding young individuals living with rare diseases.
- Addressing climate and nature: Advocating for measures that reduce the negative impacts climate change imposes on young people's health and overall well-being.
- Enhancing health systems resilience: Working towards the creation of robust healthcare systems that emphasize early actions to cater to current and future health challenges.

Understanding the AFS Youth Assembly
The AFS Youth Assembly is a renowned international forum designed to cultivate a vibrant network of young leaders and innovators committed to societal change through education, exchange, proactive engagement, and impactful collaboration. The 31st session of the assembly is themed “Rise. Reimagine. Rebuild: A World for All”, where delegates will delve into topics such as:
- Reclaiming Development as a Universal Human Right
- Policy, Justice, and Adaptation: Practical Solutions for Climate Resilience
- Rethinking Education: Fostering Youth Innovation for Tomorrow’s Skills

This assembly attracts young leaders aged 18 to 35 from over 100 countries who demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and a deep commitment to global issues.

Eligibility Criteria for the AstraZeneca Young Health Programme Scholarships
Applicants must satisfy all the criteria below to be considered for this fully funded scholarship opportunity:
- Currently engaged in work, study, or research related to Health Equity, Health Systems Resilience, and/or Climate and Nature Action.
- Have not previously participated in any AFS Youth Assembly sessions.
- Be aged between 18 and 35 years (at the program start date), although exceptional candidates over 35 may be considered if they demonstrate significant personal impact, initiative, and commitment.
- Proficient in English to fully engage in program activities.
- Available to attend the program from August 10 to August 15, 2026, including travel to Geneva.
- Willing and able to secure a visa and travel to Switzerland, as this is an in-person event.

What the Scholarship Covers
Recipients of the AstraZeneca Young Health Programme Scholarships will receive comprehensive support, which includes:

- Accommodation for four nights in a Geneva hotel, with breakfast included daily.
