Erasmus Mundus International Law Scholarship 2027–2029: Fully Funded Master’s in Europe
Are you interested in international law, peace, security, human rights and sustainable development? The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development (ILSPSD) offers an opportunity to study these interconnected issues across several leading European universities while gaining international academic and professional experience.
Applications are now open for the 2027–2029 intake, with the Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
About the Erasmus Mundus International Law Master’s
The ILSPSD is a two-year, full-time master’s programme worth 120 ECTS credits. It brings together international law, international relations, security, peace and sustainability to prepare graduates for careers in governments, international organisations, NGOs, diplomacy, policy and international legal practice.
The programme is coordinated by Leuphana University of Lüneburg in Germany and delivered with five other European higher education institutions: Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), University of Glasgow, Université libre de Bruxelles, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and University of Tartu.
Students benefit from international mobility and exposure to different legal and political perspectives throughout the programme.
Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Benefits
One of the biggest attractions of the programme is the Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
For the 2027–2029 intake, scholarship recipients receive €1,400 per month for the full 24-month programme. The scholarship is designed to contribute towards travel, visa, installation and living expenses.
Importantly, scholarship holders are exempt from tuition fees, making this a highly attractive fully funded master’s opportunity for successful applicants.
The programme is competitive, and scholarships are awarded to the highest-ranked applicants. Therefore, admission to the master’s programme and receiving an Erasmus Mundus scholarship should be treated as separate competitive outcomes.
Where Will Students Study?
The programme has a distinctive mobility structure.
Students begin their studies at Leuphana University of Lüneburg, where they complete the first semester and study international law.
In the second semester, students move to IBEI in Barcelona, Spain, where they study theories of international security.
For the third semester, students select a specialisation at one of four partner universities:
- University of Glasgow – International Law & International Security
- Université libre de Bruxelles – Security & Conflict
- Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – Globalization, Law & Security
- University of Tartu – International Law & Human Rights
Students remain at their selected university during the fourth semester to complete their master’s dissertation.
Depending on the study pathway, graduates can receive joint, double or multiple degrees.

Who Can Apply?
The programme is aimed primarily at graduates of law and related disciplines, including international relations, political science, European studies and war studies.
Applicants must have completed at least 60 ECTS in relevant subjects, including at least 30 ECTS in law. Additional requirements may apply depending on the selected specialisation.
Applicants must also demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English, unless they qualify for an exemption based on their previous education or native language.
Because the programme combines law with international affairs, it can be particularly relevant for candidates interested in international organisations, diplomacy, peace and security, human rights, global governance and sustainable development.
Application Deadline for 2027
There are two application routes.
Applicants seeking the Erasmus Mundus scholarship must submit their applications by:
4 January 2027 at 23:59 CET
Applicants who want to study as self-funded students have a later deadline of:

However, candidates interested in the scholarship should not wait for the later deadline. The January deadline is the important date for Erasmus Mundus scholarship consideration.
