A.S.Hornby Educational Trust Scholarships 2025/2026 for study in the UK (Fully Funded)

Applications are now being accepted for the fully funded A.S. Hornby Educational Trust Scholarships for the academic year 2025/2026. The deadline to submit your application is 9th February 2026. These scholarships are designed to support capacity building in English language teaching within low- and middle-income countries by providing financial assistance to qualified educators and professionals.

The A.S. Hornby Educational Trust focuses on empowering teachers and related professionals who have relevant experience and demonstrated potential to make a significant impact on English language teaching and learning in their home countries. This opportunity offers up to ten fully funded scholarships for candidates eligible to enroll in the University of Exeter’s MEd TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) programme, starting in September 2026.

The scholarships will be awarded to academically gifted and experienced individuals who are nationals of, and currently employed in, countries classified by the OECD DAC list as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should only proceed if they meet all the following requirements:

  • Be a resident and currently employed in a country categorized on the OECD DAC list as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income (view the list here).
  • Have a minimum of three years’ full-time experience teaching TESOL or working in a related professional capacity following your undergraduate degree.
  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree with academic results equivalent to a UK upper second-class honours degree or higher.
  • Not hold a doctoral degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, English, or a closely related field.
  • Not possess a Master's degree from a UK university in TESOL, applied linguistics, English, or a related discipline.

Scholarship Benefits

The awarded scholarships provide comprehensive financial coverage, including:

  • Full payment of university tuition fees.
  • A monthly stipend to support accommodation and living expenses.
  • Grants covering specified additional costs related to study.
  • Fees for UK visa processing and National Health Service (NHS) coverage.
  • Return airfare for international travel to and from the UK.

Application Procedure

Prospective applicants are encouraged to submit their applications by completing the Hornby Scholarship application form available here. It is not necessary to apply separately for the MEd TESOL programme at this stage. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be contacted with instructions on how to formally apply to the University of Exeter’s MEd TESOL programme.

The application process is as follows:

  1. Submit your application using the scholarship application form.
  2. If shortlisted, receive guidance and instructions on how to apply for the MEd TESOL programme at the University of Exeter.
  3. Final scholarship awards will be contingent upon successful admission to the University’s MEd TESOL programme.
