Unil Master’s Scholarship
Unil awards around ten excellence scholarships each year, exclusively to students who have graduated from a foreign university and whose academic results are of a very high standard.
The Unil Master’s Scholarship is awarded for the minimum statutory period of the Master’s programme and amounts to CHF 1,600 per month (see the general conditions below for further details).
As this amount does not cover the full cost of living in Switzerland, the Unil Master’s Scholarship does not constitute full funding. Applicants are therefore advised to consult the information on the cost of living in Switzerland for a student, available in the Admissions Service FAQ.
Scholarship recipients are exempt from the standard course registration fees. Only the semester fees of CHF 80 remain payable. General conditions of the Master’s Scholarship

Eligible Programmes

It is not possible to apply for the following master programmes:
- Master from the School of Medicine
- Master in Sciences and Practices of Education
- Master of Law. Exceptions: Open to applications for Master’s Scholarship : Specialisms “International and Comparative Law”, “Legal Theory” and “International Tax Law and Policy”
- Master of Science in Physical Education and Sport Didactics
- Master of Science in Health Sciences
- Master of Science in Sustainable Management & Technology
- Master of Science in Human Taphonomy
- All MASs (3rd cycle programmes, Further Education programmes)
Additional requirements
For candidates who want to apply for a Master in Finance, Psychology, Arts, or Nursing, additional conditions apply that must be scrupulously fulfilled. You can find these conditions on the Admissions Service (SII) page.Additional conditions – Master’s degree with a foreign bachelor
The admission conditions for some master programmes can change for the academic year 2027/2028
Application conditions
- Hold a foreign university degree recognized as equivalent to a Swiss university bachelor before starting the Master’s programme at Unil.
- Have achieved outstanding academic results during your studies.
- Have a minimum language level of C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):
- French for programmes taught in French
- English for programmes taught in English
- Check the programme page and the FAQ under “What language level is required for the chosen Master’s programme?”
- Not be currently enrolled at Unil.
- Have paid the administrative fee of CHF 200 (see section: application contents).
Application Procedure
Before submitting your application, please read all the information on this page (including the FAQ and the General conditions of the Master’s Scholarship).
- Prepare your application file in the form of a single PDF (see section: application contents).
- Online registration and submission of application:
- Enter your application online.
- Upload your PDF application file.
- Deadline for online registration: November 1
- Be aware: applications sent by e-mail and incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Send letters of recommendation by e-mail:
- Have two letters of recommendation sent by teachers familiar with the applicant’s past or present studies, or by an employer.
- The letters must be sent directly by the author from a professional (not private) e-mail address to the following address: [email protected].
- Deadline: November 1
- Be aware: only letters sent after online registration will be considered.
- Send certified true copies of academic documents by post (if applicable)
This step only concerns candidates whose diplomas were obtained in a State that has not ratified the Lisbon Convention (check your country here ).- Have the university or college certify and seal in an envelope :
- university diplomas,
- university transcripts,
- provisional certificates of achievement (where applicable).

Please note: your application for the Master’s Scholarship also serves as your application for the chosen Master’s degree. It is therefore not necessary to apply separately to the Admissions Office.
Incomplete applications will not be taken into account, particularly in the case of incomplete PDF files, missing letters of recommendation or the absence of certified copies (where these are required).
