Applications are currently being accepted for the 2026/2027 cycle of the DAAD Development-Related Postgraduate Courses Scholarships. These scholarships are designed to support highly qualified specialists from developing and newly industrialised countries through advanced, development-focused postgraduate studies. In rare and exceptional circumstances, doctoral studies may also be supported, enabling recipients to earn advanced academic qualifications (Master’s or PhD) within Germany.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (typically from a four-year program) in a relevant field of study.
  • A minimum of two years of professional work experience is required.
  • Applicants should come from the countries listed in the list of eligible countries.
  • Candidates must demonstrate academic excellence, typically reflected by grades placing them among the top third of their graduating class.
  • Proficiency in the required language of instruction, usually German or English, must be proven.
  • Applicants need to show a strong motivation centered on development objectives and a commitment to social responsibility, with an expectation to actively contribute to change processes in their communities and workplaces after completing their studies.

Duration of Scholarship

The funding period ranges between 12 and 42 months, depending on the specific postgraduate program pursued.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Monthly stipends amounting to €992 for postgraduate students and €1,300 for doctoral candidates. Note that from February 2026, the doctoral stipend will increase to €1,400 per month.
  • Contributions for health, accident, and personal liability insurance coverage.
  • A travel allowance to cover journey expenses, provided these are not already reimbursed by the applicant’s home country or other funding sources.
  • Under particular conditions, additional financial support may be available, such as a monthly rent subsidy and an allowance for accompanying family members.

Selection Process

Applicants are assessed based on their academic qualifications and the likelihood of successful completion of their intended program in Germany. The evaluation considers academic performance, relevant work experience, language proficiency, and the candidate’s dedication to developmental goals and social impact.
