Application Deadline: 25 April 2026

The Hyundai Motor Group is now accepting applications for its 2026/2027 scholarship programme, aimed at supporting talented young Africans pursuing their studies at SOAS University of London. This prestigious scholarship initiative offers a total of seven awards, designed to foster expertise in sustainable development across the African continent. Through these scholarships, Hyundai Motor Group seeks to build enduring partnerships and empower the next generation of African leaders to address critical global issues.

Overview of the Scholarship

These scholarships focus on nurturing professionals who will drive sustainable development in Africa. Beyond financing education, the programme aspires to create impactful change by equipping recipients with the skills necessary to tackle worldwide challenges. Recipients will also benefit from a unique alumni network and ongoing opportunities for collaboration and career advancement after completing their studies.

Who Can Apply?

This scholarship is specifically open to individuals who are African nationals and ordinarily reside within the continent. It targets international applicants liable to pay fees at SOAS University of London and supports only new entrants enrolling in the 2026/27 academic year.

  • For Master’s (MA) applicants: Candidates must possess, or anticipate receiving, an international equivalent of a UK first-class honours degree. Those holding degrees from institutions outside the UK must demonstrate top academic standing through references and transcripts. Applicants with a 2:1 degree classification may apply but will not be given priority.
  • For Research Degrees (MPhil/PhD) applicants: Candidates should have, or expect to be awarded, an international equivalent of a UK master’s degree with distinction. Non-UK master’s qualifications must also reflect top-level performance as evidenced by academic references and transcripts. Applicants with a merit classification are eligible to apply but will not receive preferential consideration.

Applicants are required to have submitted an application to SOAS University of London before applying for the scholarship. Although an offer of admission is not mandatory at the time of scholarship submission, a confirmed unconditional offer must be obtained before the scholarship selection committee convenes. Additionally, applicants must satisfy any English language requirements outlined in their offer. Note that funding for pre-sessional English courses is not included in this scholarship.

Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship covers full tuition fees and provides a generous stipend to help support living expenses throughout the course of study:

  • Master’s award: Valued at £27,730 for the 2026/27 academic year, this covers tuition fees in full. If tuition costs are less than this amount, the remaining balance will be given as a stipend.
  • PhD award: Tuition fees are fully covered for three years of full-time research study, plus a fourth year allocated for thesis write-up. Additionally, recipients will receive an annual stipend of £22,780 (2026/27 rate), disbursed in termly payments.

Beyond financial support, scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to engage in exclusive seminars and networking events organized by Hyundai Motor Group. This involvement extends post-graduation, enabling scholars to maintain valuable industry connections and professional collaborations. A Junior Internship Programme specifically for African master’s students will also commence at SOAS, with scholarship holders strongly encouraged to apply.
