Applications are currently being accepted for the 2027 session of the KAS Scholarship Program. This prestigious scholarship, offered by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V., fully funds academic studies in Germany, supporting either a Master’s degree (typically spanning four semesters) or a doctoral program at any recognized German university.
The scholarship seeks candidates who demonstrate active social or political engagement across all fields of study. Applicants must also prove their German language skills at least at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Besides strong academic records, successful candidates should embody a commitment to democratic values, pluralism, and the protection of human rights.
Who is Eligible?
This scholarship targets young scholars originating from Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. Eligible degree programs include those offered by traditional universities as well as universities of applied sciences within Germany. However, it is important to note that funding is not available for second degree courses, second doctorates, or postgraduate medical programs.

Required Application Materials
For Master’s Degree Applicants
The application must include a completed and signed form along with the following:
- A motivation letter (maximum 1.5 pages);
- A curriculum vitae formatted as a table in German;
- Copies of university diplomas, transcripts, and academic records accompanied by certified German translations;
- A reference letter from a university professor evaluating the applicant’s academic qualifications;
- Proof of voluntary or community engagement;
- Certification of German language proficiency at B2 level (at minimum B1 level must be demonstrated when applying).
For Doctoral Degree Applicants
In addition to the documents required for Master’s applicants, doctoral candidates must also provide:
- A comprehensive description of their dissertation project, detailing the problem statement, methodology, and a timetable for completion, written in either German or English;
- A reference letter from the doctoral supervisor addressing the dissertation plan;
- If available, official confirmation of admission to the doctoral program from the respective faculty or department.
