The call for applications is now open for the 2026 edition of the Nordic Africa Institute Claude Ake Visiting Chair Scholarships. This prestigious scholarship is specifically intended for social scientists based at African universities who are deeply committed to advancing social justice. The program places special emphasis on expertise in fields such as war, peace, conflict resolution, human rights, democracy, and development studies.

Established in 2003, this chair honors the legacy of Professor Claude Ake, an eminent scholar, philosopher, educator, and humanitarian whose work left a profound impact on African social sciences.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be internationally recognized senior academics with professorial qualifications—this includes those holding the positions of professor or associate professor.

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a detailed and current curriculum vitae (CV) that includes key information such as academic titles, current and previous academic positions, research and teaching experience, and a comprehensive list of publications. Contact details should also be clearly stated.
Additionally, a brief summary of the research project intended to be pursued as the Claude Ake Visiting Chair holder is required.
A thorough research proposal must be provided, outlining the essential aspects of the planned research during the stay. This document should highlight the objectives and anticipated outcomes of the project and should be between 3 to 5 pages in length.
Applicants are also required to submit two publications, ideally the pair most relevant to the proposed research project.
Furthermore, the application must include a signed recommendation letter from a senior scholar or policymaker who works within the same research domain as the applicant.
Lastly, a signed endorsement letter from the applicant’s Head of Department, Dean, or an equivalent authority must be included, confirming institutional support for the application.
