Welcome to the Department of Sustainable Energy and Development (SEDev)

At SEDev, students engage with real-world challenges in sustainable energy and development through interdisciplinary learning, research, and international collaboration.

Sustainable Energy & Development provides higher education and research to achieve universal and sustainable energy access. Renewable energy integration, project management, energy planning, and the implementation of sustainable energy systems with stakeholders and communities are our aim and motivation.

Sustainable Energy and Development M. Eng. Programme Admission requirements

You can apply if

  • you have an above-average Bachelor Degree in Engineering of at least 3,5 academic years – 7 semesters. (For a successful DAAD scholarship application, your latest academic degree must not be older than 6 years)
  • you have professional experience of at least two years after the completion of the Bachelors degree, in a field related to the course focus. (Internships will not be considered). The two years’ work experience must have been completed by the end of the application deadline.
  • your English level is B2 or higher. You can prove your proficiency in the English language by submitting an internationally recognized language certificate (TOEFL iBT Score 80, TOEFL iBT® Special Home Edition, IELTS Band 6 (in all categories), IELTS Indicator or Cambridge Certificate FCE, PTE Academic Test Score 59-75). Note: A certificate that English was the language of instruction is not sufficient for admission. Applicants from English-speaking countries (PDF) are exempted. We are aware that the request for language certificates can be seen as problematic. However, since language is our main tool of scientific communication, we believe that certified testing induces fairness in the admission process and beyond.

Note

Since SEDev aim to ensure 50% of its students are women, female applicants are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants should note that the selection procedure itself rests upon an assessment of the academic qualification, professional background and motivation of each student, regardless of gender.
