Application Deadline: 31 January 2026 at 5:00 PM EAT.
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2026 edition of the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) Young Conservation Heroes Scholarship. This initiative, a collaboration between the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya (WCK), is now inviting submissions for its second group of scholarship recipients.
The scholarship forms an integral part of the broader four-year Young Conservation Heroes Project, which was inaugurated in 2024. This project is generously supported by Bob and Emmy King and is jointly executed by AWF and WCK. Its overarching goal is to foster and strengthen a conservation movement among young learners within the Tsavo Landscape by providing approximately 83,000 students with critical conservation education and practical skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
The scholarship opportunity is specifically designed for five students who have completed Grade 9 and are alumni of the 137 primary schools participating in the Young Conservation Heroes Project. These schools are distributed across seven counties—Tana River, Kwale, Kilifi, Kitui, Makueni, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado—each located within a 10-kilometer radius of the Tsavo protected areas.
How to Apply
Applicants must fill out a printable application form fully. Along with the form, candidates need to submit two handwritten essays. These essays should describe a community or conservation project the applicant is passionate about implementing. Additionally, applicants must provide a brief summary detailing their volunteer experiences, involvement in conservation activities, and any leadership positions they have held.
With assistance from their parents, guardians, or wildlife club patrons, applicants should submit their completed applications to the specific submission points outlined in the application form.
