The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is now accepting applications for its prestigious 2026 GIS Fellowship, specifically designed to cultivate the skills of emerging African geospatial experts focused on conservation efforts. Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old and hold citizenship in one of the following African nations: Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Cameroon, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Senegal, Tunisia, or Kenya.
  • Candidates should be currently employed by organizations that have a clear mandate or potential for applying GIS methodologies. Eligible institutions include government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), conservancies, or academic and research bodies.
  • A minimum educational qualification in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Applicants need to have at least two years of professional experience in the GIS field or within the environmental sector.
  • An active commitment to conservation is essential. This can be demonstrated through involvement in conservation actions, project execution, research, or influencing policy. Preference will be given to those working on initiatives that directly impact landscapes and natural habitats.
