Applications are currently being accepted for the 2025/2026 edition of the American University of Beirut (AUB) Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. Prospective candidates have until November 6, 2025 to submit their applications.
This prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is designed to equip emerging leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive meaningful change across their local communities, countries, and broader regions. Beyond pursuing their degrees, scholars participate in a comprehensive array of workshops, specialized courses, and practical field experiences that enhance their academic journey and leadership development.

Eligibility Criteria for PhD Scholarships
The following requirements apply to applicants wishing to be considered for the Mastercard Foundation PhD scholarships:
- Must be a citizen of an African country or a refugee residing in Africa.
- Have demonstrated strong academic performance in prior degree programs.
- Possess exceptional talent that surpasses available financial means.
- Show a genuine commitment to contributing positively to their community, country, and region.
- Exhibit leadership potential and skills.
- Be willing to fully participate in all additional learning opportunities, including workshops and courses mandated by the Scholars Program.
- Be 35 years of age or younger.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English through the Readiness for University Studies in English (RUSE) assessment. Acceptable tests include the AUB-EN test, TOEFL IBT, IELTS (Academic), GRE (Verbal), GMAT (Verbal), or DUOLINGO English Test (DET).
Steps to Apply
Interested candidates are advised to follow these steps carefully to complete their application:
- Fill out the online graduate application form on AUB’s admission portal and upload all required supporting documents before the deadline.
- Within the application, choose the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program option located under the Financial Opportunities section.
- (Note: This step is not mandatory for PhD applicants) After submitting your graduate admission application, complete the AUB Financial Aid Application. This will become available to you within 1-3 business days. Upon activation, you will receive an automated email from the financial aid office providing access details.
Important: For your application to be deemed complete, both the AUB online graduate application and the AUB Financial Aid Application must be fully submitted.
