Application Deadline: 11 February, 2026

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2026 CIJ Climate Investigations Training Scholarship. The Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) seeks to select 10 skilled journalists eager to enhance their expertise and employ advanced investigative methods to produce thorough and impactful climate-related reporting. This marks the second edition of the scholarship, offering a valuable opportunity for selected candidates to participate virtually in the spring run of the CIC, a comprehensive training programme valued at up to £2,638. The course will be conducted on designated dates from 11 March through 7 May, 2026.

Those awarded this scholarship will be equipped with essential investigative tools tailored to deep-dive into climate change issues. Participants will learn from leading experts techniques for uncovering and exposing malpractice, acquire methodologies to research and accurately analyze the current environmental landscape and the influence of various initiatives, and refine their ability to craft compelling climate and environmental stories that can drive policy reforms, regulatory changes, or influence decisions made by economic stakeholders.

Who Should Apply?

The scholarship targets early to mid-career journalists residing and working within specific geographical areas, including the continent of Africa; Latin America—which encompasses South and Central America and the Caribbean nations; West Asia—covering countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Türkiye, the UAE, and Yemen; and South Asia, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Eligible applicants should be investigative journalists who have at least some prior experience reporting on environmental or climate-related subjects. Those without direct experience but with a clear, demonstrable interest in environmental or climate journalism are also encouraged to apply. A strong command of English is necessary, with candidates expected to possess advanced or professional working proficiency in reading, listening, and speaking. Additionally, applicants must commit to participating in all scheduled modules of the CIC training.
