The call for applications is officially open for the 2026 Moremi Initiative Leadership Empowerment and Development (MILEAD) Fellows Program. This prestigious program, spearheaded by the Moremi Initiative for Women’s Leadership in Africa (MILEAD), seeks to recruit exceptional young women across Africa who demonstrate exemplary leadership potential. The 2026 MILEAD Fellows Program represents a groundbreaking leadership development opportunity focused on cultivating the continent’s future female trailblazers who are courageous, visionary, and committed to societal transformation.

Designed as a comprehensive and immersive fellowship, the MILEAD Program aims to empower young African women by providing:

  • A supportive, lifelong network of peers and mentors
  • Essential values and strategic approaches to thrive as leaders in the 21st century

This initiative targets motivated young women who are deeply passionate about tackling pivotal challenges impacting women and girls throughout Africa.

Who Should Apply? Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an African woman between the ages of 19 and 25
  • Residing anywhere in Africa or part of the African Diaspora
  • Demonstrated leadership promise and experience
  • Willingness to fully engage in all program components
  • Commitment to designing and implementing a community-based change project

Program Structure and Features

  • Summer Institute: A mandatory, fully residential three-week intensive leadership training held in Ghana, designed to immerse fellows deeply in leadership development.
  • One-Year Fellowship: Encompasses ongoing online coursework, personalized mentoring, and hands-on community action projects.
  • Fellows can maintain full-time employment or academic pursuits throughout the fellowship year, except during the Summer Institute period when full-time participation is required.
  • Only 25 outstanding young women will be selected annually, representing 25 different African countries.

Please note that this fellowship is not full-time outside of the Summer Institute. During the three-week residential institute, fellows must participate full-time on-site. The remainder of the fellowship is structured around virtual learning and community engagement activities, allowing fellows to balance their existing commitments.
