Applications are now open for the 2027 National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) External Bursary Programme. The National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) is inviting South African students to apply for its External Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year, supporting the development of skilled professionals in disaster risk reduction and emergency management.

Bursaries are open to students who have applied for, been accepted into, or are registered for an Undergraduate, Postgraduate Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Master’s programme in Disaster Management or Fire Technology/Fire Engineering at a recognised public higher education institution.

Requirements

Applicants must be South African citizens meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Undergraduate, Postgraduate Diploma, and Advanced Diploma: 60% academic average
  • Master’s: 65% academic average, with a research proposal aligned to the NDMC’s priority thematic areas

Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

Successful applicants receive 100% tuition fee support, including registration (excluding accommodation, meals, books, and travel). Qualifying Master’s students may also receive a research allowance capped at R11 000.
