The Wittenstein Foundation/Einstein Forum Fellowship 2027 for outstanding young thinkers (EUR 10,000 & Reimbursed Travel Expense to Berlin, Germany)

Application Deadline: May 15, 2026.

Applications are currently being accepted for the prestigious 2027 Wittenstein Foundation/Einstein Forum Fellowship, an opportunity aimed at exceptional young intellectuals eager to explore a research project outside their previous academic domains. This fellowship, jointly sponsored by the Einstein Forum and the Wittenstein Foundation, is designed to encourage scholars who not only excel in their specialized fields but also demonstrate a willingness to engage with interdisciplinary perspectives—emulating the boundary-crossing spirit of Albert Einstein.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be under the age of 35.
  • A university degree in the humanities, social sciences, or natural sciences is required.

At the conclusion of the fellowship tenure, recipients are expected to present their research findings publicly at both the Einstein Forum and the Wittenstein Foundation venues. It is important to note that this fellowship does not support projects that are continuations of academic work already underway. Instead, applicants should propose fresh, innovative projects that showcase high intellectual caliber, originality, and practical viability. Possession of, or progress toward, a doctoral degree is not a prerequisite and will not influence the evaluation.

The project proposed by the candidate does not need to be fully finished during the fellowship period; in fact, the fellowship may serve as the initial phase of a larger, ongoing research endeavor.

Fellowship Benefits

Successful fellows will be granted accommodation for a period ranging from five to six months in the historic garden cottage located within Albert Einstein’s summer residence in Caputh, Brandenburg. This idyllic setting is conveniently near the universities and academic centers of Potsdam and Berlin, offering a stimulating intellectual environment.

In addition to housing, fellows receive a stipend amounting to EUR 10,000 and reimbursement for travel expenses to and from Berlin, facilitating a comfortable and focused research experience.

How to Apply

Prospective candidates should submit the following by the deadline of May 15, 2026:

  • A detailed curriculum vitae (CV)
  • A concise project proposal limited to two pages
  • Two letters of recommendation endorsing the applicant’s qualifications and project
