Application Deadline: Applications are currently being accepted on a rolling basis for the 2026 PhD Fellowship Programme at the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH).

The UNU-IIGH’s Global Health PhD Fellowship Programme is crafted to offer doctoral students a unique chance to deepen their academic training by actively participating in global health policymaking within the United Nations framework. This fellowship is tailored to provide practical experience in areas such as applied research, policy evaluation, and the translation of knowledge into actionable outcomes.

Selected fellows will be integrated into UNU-IIGH’s dedicated research teams, where they will engage in projects that have direct relevance to policy development, assisting UN bodies, national governments, and various partners worldwide. Each fellow will work under the guidance of an experienced UNU-IIGH researcher, receiving mentorship throughout the fellowship period. Beyond project work, fellows are expected to contribute meaningfully to the Institute’s ongoing research initiatives, policy dialogues, and capacity-building efforts.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program focused on global health, public health, health policy, or a closely related discipline.
  • Possess strong analytical capabilities and proficiency in academic writing in English.
  • Show a clear interest and commitment to global health policy, governance mechanisms, and applied research methodologies.
  • Capable of functioning both independently and collaboratively within a diverse, international, and multidisciplinary team.

Fellowship Details

  • Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
  • Duration: Ranges from 6 to 12 months.
  • Contract Type: Consultant contract (CTC).
  • The fellowship is designed to complement the fellow’s PhD research and academic progression, not serve as a replacement.
  • Candidates must have completed their primary doctoral fieldwork prior to starting the fellowship.
